Randall
Hall offers a variety of concert and pedagogical programs. Any
combination of the following presentations, or new events, may
be arranged.
RECITAL
- A full concert program featuring music for solo saxophone, saxophone
and piano, and saxophone and electronics. Works are drawn from
contemporary literature and include extended performance techniques
and improvisations. Programs of traditional saxophone repertoire
are also available.
CONCERT SOLOS - Performances with orchestra, wind ensemble
or chamber ensemble. Performances range from classical concertos
to the avant-garde and experimental.
SAXOPHONE
MASTER-CLASS - A traditional pedagogical format in which saxophone
students receive a public coaching in interpretation and technique.
MUSIC OF GIACINTO SCELSI - Presentation on aesthetic and
analytical issues of twentieth century Italian composer Giacinto
Scelsi based on research done at the Scelsi Foundation in Rome.
IMPROVISATION WORKSHOP - A clinic/demonstration for musicians
interested in exploring the possibilities of improvising in various
idioms of contemporary art music. Topics include the use of modern
instrumental techniques, developing structural frameworks for
improvisation, and incorporating other arts and media.
COMPOSITION
WORKSHOP - A workshop for composition students to help them
better understand the range and limitations of the modern saxophone,
its capabilities for extended techniques, and the notation of
these techniques. Also explores the aesthetic potential of these
new technical possibilities.
